This is this summer's final Lyons Last Thursdays / Arts Stroll where at around 4:30 - visitors & locals alike need to be on the lookout for costumed characters handing out today's map and a special FREE Lyons Passport!

Walk the Walk this Thursday to explore all the arts ongoings & offerings all over town...

At spots on this map along the way - stop & get your Lyons Passport validated by at least 10 businesses. Friendly business employees will “stamp, punch or sticker” the circle beside their business' name. Once Walk the Walkers have obtained at least 10 validations, they'll take their Lyons Passport back to a friendly costumed
character & exchange it for a special $10 Voucher (limit 2 per family) that can be spent - same as cash - at the listed local businesses, restaurants & service providers.

Each voucher is valid Thursday through the following Monday.
Businesses are encouraged to stay open late (until 9PMish) & each makes their own arrangements to showcase, promote, sponsor or celebrate an artist(s) or art form(s) of any genre! Tall “Art" flags, maps & door signs will help guide the way.

"Lyons Last Thursdays / Arts Strolls" have been made possible through the Lyons Chamber, the Town of Lyons, & the Lyons Arts & Humanities Commission (LAHC), in an effort to stimulate an arts buzz & commerce in town. The hope is that locals & visitors alike will linger longer in Lyons & then come back again!

Lyons Depot Wins Governor's Award for Downtown Excellence

The historic Lyons Depot building was selected as the winner of Downtown Colorado, Inc.’s 2016 Governor’s Award for Downtown Excellence, for Best Adaptive Reuse or Rehabilitation in a Small Community Category. The winners of the 2016 Governor’s Awards were recognized on September 22, at DCI’s annual statewide conference, Vibrant Colorado Downtowns, held in Pueblo, CO.

The building’s nomination detailed its history as a train depot turned library, and the 2013 flood rehabilitation process that transformed the building into government offices and community meeting space.

Judges from the panel appreciated the efforts:
“This project shows how a community can work together to save an important historic building.”

“Great project! They did a great job of keeping it clearly a depot and retaining the important features. The windows and doors (especially the sliding freight door and original hardware) are beautifully done.”

Other categories for the Governor’s Awards for Downtown Excellence include Best Use of Public Space; Best New Addition to Downtown; Best Event, Festival or Reoccurring Activity; Best Creative Reuse in Large Community; Colorful Colorado Award; and Downtowner of the Year.

Wilderness First Responder Training

The Lyons Fire Protection District will be doing a Wilderness First Responder class and scenarios on Friday, Sept. 30. The afternoon training will include a helicopter in Bohn Park, followed by an evening drill on Antelope Trail, in Boulder County Open Space. All drills will be on foot (no vehicles involved), and end around 10 p.m.

Election Ready

October is the perfect time to vote!

Ballots are mailed to all active registered voters the week of October 17. If you would like to check your registration, visit www.BoulderCountyVotes.org.

October 31 is the last day to register and still receive a ballot in the mail (otherwise you need to register and vote in person). Voting in person is also available beginning October 24. Locations and hours of operation are listed in your mail ballot packet or online.

Track your mail ballot. Visit www.BoulderCountyVotes.org to sign up for Ballot Track to receive messages by email, text, or phone when your mail ballot has been printed, mailed, and received back by Boulder County Elections during election periods.

Vote early! Once you decide how to vote, return your mail ballot. Voting early helps reduce campaign phone calls for you and helps the county process ballots throughout the election period rather than on just one night (no votes are tabulated before election night though!).

The Town of Lyons Parks and Recreation is pleased to offer open volleyball in our new sand volleyball court at LaVern M. Johnson parks weekly. We hope a good amount of folks can make it every Thursday to allow for a fun competition.

Pottery Class for Kids

What could be more fun than getting your hands on some clay and letting your imagination soar as you use your hands to create. We are offering 4 different pottery sessions for your child to attend, each one creating something different. Sign up for as many as you’d like, you’d don’t have to attend all of the classes. Your child may opt to do the designated creation, or simply create their own masterpiece. Parents are welcome and encouraged to join! You won’t want to miss this class!

North St. Vrain Creek Stream Restoration Project Complete

North St. Vrain Creek Stream Restoration Complete

Boulder County, in partnership with the City of Longmont, has completed restoration of a 1,960 foot segment of North St. Vrain Creek that was scoured and degraded by the 2013 Flood. The North St. Vrain Creek Collaborative Restoration Project is the first stream restoration project implemented under the Watershed Resilience Pilot Program.

“The N. St. Vrain Creek project is a successful example of the goals we are trying to achieve with the Watershed Resilience Pilot Program,” said KC McFerson, CDBG-DR Watershed Program Manager at DOLA. “The project aligns watershed restoration and risk mitigation with community goals using a collaborative approach.”

US-34 Big Thompson Canyon Repair Project

Full Closure Beginning Monday, Oct. 17

A full closure of US 34 between mile points 77 and 80 will begin Monday, Oct. 17, and be in place until the start of the 2017 Memorial Day weekend. Until then, this three-mile section of the canyon will be closed to through traffic. US 34 will remain open to drivers east of mile point 80 (near Cedar Cove) and west of mile point 77 (just east of Drake).

The only through access on US 34 from Oct. 17 until next Memorial Day weekend will be for canyon residents through a permit process. Permitted vehicles will be allowed through the canyon from 6 - 8:30 a.m. and 4 - 7 p.m. each day.

St. Vrain Creek Coalition Hosts Flood Recovery Progress Tour

Thursday, Sept. 29

Registration is OPEN for this FREE event that will take you around the Saint Vrain Watershed to get a closer look at some of the flood recovery projects that have been completed or are in development. We will have speakers at each stop to give tour participants insight to what has happened and what will happen within these various project areas.
