Are you watching kids scroll through life, with their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that with her own kids and learned that the average kid spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. She wondered about the impact of all this time and about the friction occurring in homes and schools around negotiating screen time—friction she knew all too well.
 
In SCREENAGERS, as with her award-winning documentaries on mental health, Delaney takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development and offers solutions on how adults can
empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance.

Eco-Cycle Internships at Lyons Middle/Senior High School

Eco-cycle is offering a total of 19 internships between Spring 2017 and Spring 2018 at Lyons Middle Senior High School.Interns must be between 14-17 years old. 

Application deadline is Tuesday, February 28 at 4:00 p.m. Interviews will be conducted the week of March 6th after school.

Floodplain Mapping Project Stream Reach Public Meetings

Feb. 23

Boulder County Transportation and the State of Colorado are hosting a series of public meetings to present draft floodplain maps for major stream corridors in unincorporated county from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Colorado Hazard Mapping Program (CHAMP).  
These sessions are an opportunity for the public to review draft updated map information for locations in unincorporated Boulder County as listed for each meeting below. Locations outside of the defined map review areas for each meeting will not be discussed. Additional public meetings will be scheduled as map updates are received.

• NEW AREAS: North Boulder Creek from Hwy 72, Middle Boulder Creek from west of Eldora to Nederland, and South Boulder Creek from the county line to Gross Reservoir
• Jan. 31 map areas: Two Mile Canyon Creek, Middle Boulder Creek & Boulder Creek from Barker Reservoir to upstream of Eben G. Fine Park, Lower Boulder Creek east of 61st Street, South Boulder Creek from Gross Reservoir to Eldorado Springs townsite, Rock Creek, and Coal Creek
• Jan. 19 map areas: Cabin Creek, North, Middle, and South St. Vrain Creek(s) from Hwy 72 to upper Longmont Dam Rd (North St. Vrain) & just upstream of Red Gulch Rd. (South St. Vrain)
• Jan. 10 map areas: Fourmile Canyon Creek upstream of Wagonwheel Gap Rd., Dry Creek #2, New Dry Creek, and the Resilient St. Vrain study area (near 75th St. to East County Line Rd.)
• Dec. 13 (2016) map areas: North and South St. Vrain creeks from downstream of Longmont Dam Road and just upstream of Red Gulch Road to Lyons and St. Vrain Creek from Lyons east to 75th St.

2017 Lyons EcoPass

The Town of Lyons has continued its EcoPass program for all Town residents, through 2017. Unlike previous years, there will now be a small annual $25 fee for the EcoPass that will be due before the end of March (the pass has a retail value of over $2,000).
 
Lyons EcoPass provides residents with free use of any RTD bus and light rail services. This includes the “Y” service from Lyons to Boulder, buses to the airport, and buses and light rail in and around Boulder, Longmont and Denver.
 
The deadline for paying is coming up! If you already have an EcoPass you need to pay $25 before March 31 in order to keep it active (if you have multiple members in your family you will need to pay $25 per pass). There are two ways to do this. You can bring a check to Town Hall or make the payment online at www.townoflyons.com/415
 
Once you pay the fee no further action is required, your card will continue to work. EcoPass holders that do not pay the fee by March 31st cards will be deactivated until payment is received.

Sheriff Pelle reminds Boulder County residents and visitors of current high fire danger

Sheriff Joe Pelle would like to remind Boulder County residents and visitors that the unseasonably warm and dry weather along with the late winter winds have created conditions that will greatly influence large uncontrolled wildfire.

Boulder County is automatically in fire restrictions anytime dry and windy conditions result in a Red Flag Warning, a High Wind Warning, or a Fire Weather Watch Warning being issued for our county by the National Weather Service. No open burning will be allowed anywhere in the unincorporated areas of the county under those conditions.

Residents are encouraged to refrain from outdoor activities like field mowing, recreational shooting, welding, and operating heavy equipment that could cause a spark.
