Speed Limit Through Town

The Town received approval from CDOT to implement a 35 mph speed limit through the road work areas, along East Main Street and US-36. Please note that fines are still doubled for speeding violations through this area.

Lyons Primary Planning Area Master Plan Process

A public forum is available on the Town's website to allow feedback and ideas for the Lyons Primary Planning Area Master Plan process. The project coordinators will continuously monitor the forum. All properly submitted feedback will be given equal consideration to that of public input collected from planning workshops.

In addition, the March 17 Eastern Corridor planning workshop presentation is now available on the Town website.

Bear Sighting

Last week, a bear sighting was reported in Town, around Ewald Avenue. Please remember that bears that are attracted to human food sources can damage property, vehicles and homes. Bears that find food around homes, campgrounds, and communities often lose their natural weariness of people, and consequently, become more comfortable and aggressive in attaining food. When bears become too comfortable around people, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) must intervene by either relocating or humanely euthanizing the bear if deemed a threat. By staying informed and taking preventative measures, you can help save bears by keeping them wild and away from human areas.
CPW offers a range of resources for living in areas with bears. Please do your part in bear-proofing your home and property, to help keep bears alive.

Craigslist Scams

There have been several recent reports of local Craigslist scams. Sgt. Goldberger advises to always be cautious when buying or selling through Craigslist, and trust your instinct. He notes, "If it's too good to be true, it probably is."

Fraudguides.com offers the following tips for avoiding Craigslist scams:

Trust your instincts
Deal only with local buyers and sellers
NEVER wire funds to a distant buyer, via Western Union or any other carrier
Be wary if the other party wants to use an escrow service such as BidPay, Squaretrade, or even PayPal
NEVER give out personal financial information (eBay or PayPal info, checking account number, SSN, etc.)
always remember the most important rule — BUYER BEWARE

Boulder County Discount Electric Car & Bike Program

Boulder County and its municipalities are providing an incentive for people to leave the gas pump, by offering discounted rates on electric vehicles and electric bikes.

In 2015, the program facilitated the purchase of more than 750kWh of residential rooftop solar and more than 248 electric cars across the Front Range, equating to 5% of all LEAFs sold in the nation between September and December in 2015.

The Lyons Parks and Recreation department, in conjunction with the Lyons Library, is pleased to offer a basic computer skills class for Lyon’s Active Adults 50+ at the Lyons Regional Library. This class will go over e-mail, Facebook, and internet skills, and can help you get more connected with all of the most-used Lyons Facebook pages. There is a maximum of 5 participants for this class.

125th Year of Incorporation

Commemorative Event

On April 19, 1880, E. S. Lyon founded the Town of Lyons, and on April 6, 1891, the Town became incorporated.

This April marks the Town's 125th year, or quasquicentennial, of incorporation. To celebrate, Town Officials are hosting a commemorative event on April 4, beginning at 4:00 p.m., at Lyons Town Hall. The events will include opening live music, tours of the Lyons Depot, speeches from Mayor O’Brien and Mayor Pro Tem Sullivan, history and poem readings, presentations of commemorative gifts, and more.
A Board of Trustees meeting will follow the event, beginning at its regular time, 7:00 p.m.

Please join us in celebrating Lyons' 125th year of incorporation on April 4, and be on the lookout for special quasquicentennial memorabilia!
