Energy Saving Tips

Hot! Hot! Days Ahead

When hot summer weather moves in, many Coloradans turn on their air conditioning to keep cool and stay comfortable.

With high temperatures once again expected this week, here are some tips to help customers find relief from the heat and their bills this summer.

Home cooling can account for about half of a summertime electric bill, and the best way customers can keep that bill from climbing too high is to practice some basic conservation
and efficiency habits to keep cool without stressing the budget.
Small changes customers can make in their day and evening routines include setting thermostats a bit higher if your health allows, turning off unnecessary lights and postponing the use of major appliances until after 8 pm.

Additional summertime energy-saving tips include:

• Using electric fans instead of air conditioning when practical.
• Closing drapes and blinds to keep out direct sunlight during hot periods.
• Operating energy-intensive appliances, such as dishwashers, washing machines and dryers, during early morning and late evening hours.
• Limiting the opening and reopening of refrigerators, which are major users of electricity in most homes.

Lyons. Grit. Grace. Gratitude

Lyons. Grit. Grace. Gratitude.

It has been said that “we shall be known by the company we keep”. The truth is we need each other; it’s how we get through tough times. As humans, we are hardwired for connection, collaboration, and relationship. Which means that here in Lyons, we are inextricably linked by geography AND community.

In this current climate of locking down, staying home, and tending to our own, it’s more important than ever to once again pause and take inventory. Reflect. Be present. Share gratitude.

This summer’s “Lyons Love” campaign is about strengthening our community through connection, through socially-responsible opportunities, including:
-a community scavenger hunt;
-a gratitude wall;
-a local Lyons thank-you effort;
-a photo, art, and video contest;
-coordinated at-home events;
-and more.
Let’s do this, Lyons – grab your mask, your grit, your grace and your gratitude and get out and PLAY this summer!
