Former Governor Hickenlooper Visits Lyons

On Thursday, September 12, former Governor and Senator Candidate John Hickenlooper made a visit to Lyons, to receive an update on flood recovery. While in town, he explored the newly opened library, toured several areas around Lyons, and visited the Governor Hickenlooper Way trail, located at the corner of 4th Avenue and Prospect Street. The former governor stated Lyons is the first to name a trail after him! While not yet complete, the trail will be a loop in that area.

Crack SealingStone Canyon & Lyons Valley ParkOn Wednesday, Sept. 18, the pavement contractor will complete crack-sealing the cul-de-sacs in Lyons Valley Park that were not finished last weekend. On the weekend of Sept. 21, crack-sealing will occur on roads in Stone Canyon. They will do all roads in the subdivision, as signified within the blue circle on the image below.
Please avoid parking vehicles along the roads during this time. Crack sealing will continue to Steamboat Valley Rd., Vasquez Ct. & Rd., and Horizon Dr. on September 28; more information to follow.

Lyons Fire: Wilderness EMR Training Friday and Saturday, Sept. 20 & 21 The Lyons Fire Protection District will be doing a Wilderness First Responder classes and scenarios on Friday, Sept. 20, between 7:00 and 10:00 p.m. at Hall Ranch, and Saturday, Sept. 21, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Station 2. The Friday training will include a mock rescue near the Antelope trailhead, and Saturday's training will consist of an Airlink medical helicopter landing. All drills will be on foot (no vehicles involved).

9Health FairSaturday, Sept. 28 | 8 a.m. to noon The Lyons 9Health Fair will take place on Saturday, September 28, from 8 a.m. until noon, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 200 2nd Ave.
The Lyons 9 Health Fair offers a variety of free health screenings including, blood chemistry, body in balance, breast and PAP exams, flu shots (some are free if you qualify, others will be billed to your insurance), blood pressure, vision, dental, hand screening, hearing, skin, stress management screenings and more! We will also have representatives to assess correct child car-seat placement.

Faded History Photography WorkshopThursday, September 19 | 7 to 8:30 p.m.Faded History is a free photography workshop on the care and preservation of photographs, and how computer technology can be used to restore photographs faded by time. For a $10 donation, participants can have one photograph (up to 8"x10") scanned and cleaned up, and receive a jpeg image of the photograph. All proceeds from the event go towards the purchase of archival materials for the museum.

St. Vrain InvitationalFriday, Sept. 20 and Saturday, Sept. 21 On Friday, September 20 and Saturday, September 21, Lyons will host the annual St. Vrain Cross Country Invitational. With 68 teams and over 2,300 participants, organizers anticipate this year's event will bigger than it has been the last few years.
While participants and spectators are asked to carpool, residents in the vicinity of the school may experience a considerable amount of vehicles parked along neighborhood roads. We thank all residents for their patience and understanding during the event.

State Highway 66 Access Control Plan Public Information Session
Thursday, September 26 | 4:30 p.m. | Longs Peak Middle School The Town of Lyons and the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) are hosting a public information session for the draft State Highway (SH) 66 Access Control Plan (ACP). CDOT will give a brief overview of the plan, successes it has had with other ACPs, the SH 66 ACP Intergovernmental Agreement and the agreement amendment process.

Emergency Preparedness FairSaturday, September 21 | 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lyons Fire Station On Saturday, September 21, at the Lyons Fire Station, Lyons Prepared will host the 2019 Emergency Preparedness Fair! The event will include fire safety demonstrations, hands-on demos for adults and kids, and door prizes. Plus, bring your out-of-date fire extinguishers for free recycling and pick up a new one at a reasonable price! So check all the fire extinguishers in your house, and join the Preparedness team for the annual fair!
