Celebrate Lyons' new library, with an afternoon of discovery, music, and fun for all ages.

Schedule of Activities

  • 12:00-1:00 - The “Better than Book Club Band” with Kate Kerr and friends including hammered dulcimer National Champion, Tina Guegler
  • 12:30-1:00 - Story Time with Annie Grace
  • 1:00-1:30 - Musical instrument petting zoo. Try out a hammered dulcimer, banjo, mandolin, fiddle and more!
  • 1:30-2:00 - RIBBON CUTTING
  • 2:00-2:30 - Lyons Middle/High School Jazz Band
  • 2:30-3:00 - Friends of the Library slide show and meeting
  • 3:00-4:00 - Speaker, Court Whelan, author of a new book: "The Monarch Migration: A Journey through the Monarch Butterfly’s Winter Home" 
  • 4:00-5:00 - Social Time

Throughout the day, guests can enjoy refreshments, Discovery Scavenger hunt, “Adopt-a-Book” to enhance the library collection, writing with KayAnn Short, and more.

If you live within the Town of Lyons (proper), and have extra scrap metal and/or Styrofoam, the Lyons Volunteers are here to help! The Volunteers are hosting another free pick-up of scrap metal and Styrofoam, on Wednesday, September 11.

To request the Volunteers to pick up scrap metal and/or hard block Styrofoam from your residence, visit and fill out the online work request form. Lyons Volunteers will get back to you to schedule the pickup of scrap metal/hard block Styrofoam at your property.

I Survived, Flood Anniversary Event

I Survived: 6-Year Flood Anniversary

Monday, September 9 | 5:30 to 7 p.m.

The Lyons Redstone Museum are hosting an Open House Potluck at Walt Self Senior Center on Monday, September 9, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Come to share your stories, successes, and where you are today, with people who can relate to the flood's impact. This will be a friendly space to be with neighbors and share a meal. Guests are welcome to bring a dish to share, along with flood memorabilia.

Lyons Middle Senior High | September 13

Join the community for an evening of food and fun, and stay for the Lyons Lions home-opener football game. The BBQ will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with the football game starting at 7:00 p.m. Purchase of a football ticket includes a free BBQ dinner - burgers, hot dogs, sides, and desserts. We are #smallANDmighty, and this event is a great way to connect as a community. Go Lions!

Families Can Create is a community event put on by Lyons Elementary and Lyons Middle Senior High School. The SVVSD Innovation Bus and Big Chix Wings Food Truck will be available as families create photo projects using iPads.

The event will take place from 12 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, at the Lyons Regional Library.

Olympic Athlete hosts Women's Mountain Bike Clinics

Women's Mountain Biking Clinics
Olympic Athlete, coach, and riding expert, Ann Trombley, will be hosting women's mountain biking clinics, for intermediate and advanced riders. This is an awesome opportunity to learn from a world-renowned rider, and enjoy the highly sought trails in Lyons' backyard!

Kids' Mountain Biking Clinics

Kids' Mountain Biking Clinics

This popular class is returning for fall. Led by Boulder Junior Cycling Head Coach, Lester Pardoe, this class is designed for beginner and intermediate MTB riders. This session includes instruction on braking, shifting, cornering, balance, drops and step-up, trail etiquette and riding on local trails, pumping and jumping, and challenges.

The clinics take place each Monday, September 9 through October 21 (with the exception of Oct. 7), from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Join in the fun and learn some great skills too! Register at

Emergency Preparedness Fair

Saturday, September 21 | 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Lyons Fire Station

On Saturday, September 21, at the Lyons Fire Station, Lyons Prepared will host the 2019 Emergency Preparedness Fair! The event will include fire safety demonstrations, hands-on demos for adults and kids, and door prizes. Plus, bring your out-of-date fire extinguishers for free recycling and pick up a new one at a reasonable price! So check all the fire extinguishers in your house, and join the Preparedness team for the annual fair!
