The LaVern Johnson Park Ice Rink opens tomorrow, Dec. 29, at 9 a.m.! There is no charge to use the ice skating rink at LaVern Johnson Park. However, parking fees are in effect (great time to sign up for your 2019 parking pass - more information below!). Remember, while the Parks and Public Works teams provide general maintenance to the rink, ice conditions are not guaranteed, and users should use always caution when skating; skating and any use of the rink is at the user's own risk!

Rink Hours and Schedule

The rink is open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, weather permitting. To accommodate various usages for the rink, the following rotating schedule is in effect, setting different hours for hockey and recreational/family skating: 

Recreational/Family Skating Hours:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday: 4 p.m. - 10 p.m. 
Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Hockey Hours:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday: 4 p.m. - 10 p.m.   

Please be aware of the skill level and safety of others while skating, and please do not play hockey during family recreational skating hours. 

Ice Skate Rentals

Ice skate rentals will be available at the LaVern M. Johnson Park Concession Stand on Saturdays and Sundays, from noon to 4 p.m., when the rink is open. 

1-Day Rental (return by end of same day):
$4.00/hour, or $8.00/half day

1-Week Rental (return by end of same day the following week):
Lyons Residents: $20 | Nonresidents: $25

To Return: Skate rental returns may be placed in the ice skate drop box located outside the concession stand.

Users may also bring their own skates.

Christmas Tree Recycling Program

Christmas Tree Recycling

The Town of Lyons is partnering with Lyons Volunteers for a one day only Christmas Tree Recycling Program!

Trees must be stripped of all ornaments, tinsel and other decorations, and be placed outside your residence by 8:00 a.m. on Monday, January 7, to be picked up by the Lyons Volunteers, as they go through each local neighborhood.

Wreaths, garland, artificial trees, or tree stands will not be accepted.

While this service is free of charge to local residents, we encourage you to make a donation to either the Lyons Community Foundation, Lyons Emergency Assistance Fund (LEAF), or the Lyons Historical Society. Simply tie or rubber band your tax-deductible donation to your tree before placing it in front of your residence.

Lyons Volunteers will be begin collecting the trees on Monday, January 7, beginning at 8 a.m.

Important notes:

  • This is a one day only program.
  • There is not a drop-off location.
  • Wreaths will not be accepted.
  • The Lyons Volunteers will take the tree ONLY, just like you found it -- free of all tinsel, ornaments, lights, nails, stands, etc. The recycled Christmas trees will be chipped.

Town Holiday Closures

The Town of Lyons municipal offices will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 1, for the New Year's Day holiday, resuming normal hours Wednesday, Jan. 2.

2019 Lyons Parks Parking Pass

2018 Parking Passes expire on December 31st. The 2019 parking passes for LaVern Johnson and Bohn Park are available to residents of Lyons (utility billing customers only). One free resident parking pass per household, second pass may be obtained for $35, third pass will be $55. Golf carts are considered vehicles. The one free parking pass per household may be used for a golf cart.

Non-residents may purchase a season parking pass for a fl at rate of $75 per vehicle. The parking fee for 2019 is currently set at $5 for every 4 hours and may be paid at the kiosks located throughout the parks with the receipt placed on the windshield. Parking fees are enforced.
