Ice Rink in LaVern Johnson Park

LaVern M. Johnson Park was designed to incorporate a weather-dependent ice rink atop the enclosed grassy area, at the west end of the park. The rink's ice is completely dependent upon below freezing weather, as the Town does not have a chiller or other freezing equipment.

To begin establishing the rink for the season, temperatures need to be below freezing for at least seven consistent days. The Parks and Public Works team are keeping a close watch on weather forecasts, with the intent to open the rink as soon as weather permits.

As the team continues work on the upcoming rink, we request the community's help in avoiding the area completely, and encouraging others to do the same. Checking the thickness of the ice is not only dangerous, but it prolongs the time needed to get the ice surface ready for use.

Stay tuned for updates on the ice rink, and hope for some cold weather!

Give Where You Live

Lyons is fortunate to have many non-profits and philanthropic groups who work together to make Lyons a better place to live, work, and play. In the season of giving, we encourage you to direct your generosity to local causes. Financial contributions go a long way and stay in the community, when funds are given directly to these local organizations.

Here are a few local nonprofits that do great work in our community:

Lyons Community Foundation:
LEAF (Lyons Emergency Assistance Fund):
Lyons Volunteers:
Lyons Redstone Museum:

These local non-profits always welcome community members to participate as volunteers as well.
