Governor Hickenlooper Visiting Lyons

Governor John Hickenlooper will be in Lyons on Friday, May 18 for the bill signing ceremony of HB 18-1394 an Update to the Colorado Disaster Emergency Act. The bill signing will take place at Oskar Blues Brewery, 303 Main St., at 3:45 p.m.

Clean Up Day This Weekend

Saturday, May 19 | 9 AM to 1 PM

Saturday, May 19 is the Lyons area cleanup day and will take place at the Waste Water Treatment Plant on 2nd Avenue, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. sharp. The goal of this event is reduce landfill items by providing responsible disposal of items that otherwise could not be recycled locally. Area residents are welcome to bring items for recycling, donation, and disposal.

The town is looking for a few more volunteers to help make this a great community event. Shifts are only 2 or 3 hours and your help is appreciated! Please sign up to volunteer at the event here.

Kitty Litter in Toilets - Yikes!

Please do not flush "flushable" kitty litter!

There has been a recent influx of kitty litter in the Town's sewage system. While truly a remarkable invention, we are saddened to report that flushable kitty litter is in no part actually flushable here in Lyons. The waste water treatment plant does not have the capacity to process any "flushable" kitty litter.

In fact, this idea extends far beyond kitty litter; other items not to flush are "flushable" wipes, rags, paper towels, socks, prescription or over-the-counter drugs of any kind, and floss, all of which are just a few items that cause ongoing problems at our waste water treatment plant, costing time, money, and resources to remove them from the system.

Please help keep our waste water treatment plant running for many years, and only flush toilet paper! When in doubt, please throw it out!

Slalom Gates - LaVern Johnson Park

Local kayak practice runs for Lyons Outdoor Games

The Town of Lyons has engaged in and promoted kayaking programs through its Parks and Recreation Department for over a decade, through various programming opportunities and facility development. This has assisted in the development of several local kayaking champions, on the local and national scale.

To continue its support for the kayaking community, slalom gates will be installed within LaVern Park this week. Kayakers are welcome to utilize the gates as a practice course, through the early June in preparation for the Outdoor Games. The gates will be removed following the event, which is June 1-2.

The gates will only be up during high water, when tubing and fishing opportunities are limited or less likely to occur, or can be pushed to the side when not in use. Careful measures will be taken to ensure trees are protected when the gates are hung.

Street Sweeping

Through the week of May 14

Street sweeping has begun on residential streets. The sweeping will continue through the early next week. Please do not park vehicles along local streets during sweeping.

Asphalt Repair and Patching

Weeks of May 7 & 14

Asphalt repair and patching has been completed on Longs Peak Road, and will continue along Railroad Avenue into early next week. After Railroad Avenue, asphalt repair and overlays will continue at the Apple Valley Road street cut, and 4th Avenue and Evans.

In efforts to increase efficiency and effectiveness, please ensure vehicles are not parked along the right-of-way in these areas, during the scheduled times. We appreciate your assistance! There may be delays if Lyons receives any moisture during this time.

Bohn Park Phase II

The Town was recently informed of procedural gaps that have occurred in the Bohn Park Phase II project. The Town has been working closely with the project funder, FEMA, in addressing the discrepancies to move forward. While the entities continue to work together, you may have noticed a lull in activity at Bohn Park Phase II.

Pending guidance from involved federal agencies, Phase II is temporarily on hold while federal agencies determine whether a Cultural Resource Survey is complete. The Town intends to have more information as they work through this complex funding process this month.

Meanwhile, please enjoy the newly opened Phase I (north end) of Bohn Park!
