McConnell Bridge Update

Pedestrian Path

The pedestrian path along the McConnell Drive bridge is now open. The contractor agreed to build the path at no extra cost to the Town, as a courtesy to foot and bike traffic; however, please keep in mind that because of its narrow width, the path cannot be maintained by the Town or the contractor, so icy conditions may exist.

Construction Update

Pile driving and river rock screening are now complete. The process of drilling and pouring caissons is still underway - a process resulting in noticeably audible impacts to surrounding neighborhoods.

Fun Winter Town Hall Art Show

Special Winter Town Hall Art Show

Calling All Lyons Students (and Parents)!

This is an invitation to any pent-up peeps (of all ages) over the holidays wanting to express themselves artistically to:

A. Design and submit a snowflake creation (remember - no two snowflakes are identical) to be hung from Town Hall Chamber Room’s ceiling through April - check out this fun and easy 3-D snowflake idea!;

B. Write poetry to be displayed on the wall (an event for school-age children) and/or deliver a poem or prose for a dramatic read-aloud (open to everyone);

C. Create an artistic winter-themed wall-hangable piece of art, to be displayed in the Town Hall Board Room, as part of the Winter Show!

All ages and stages of artistry are welcomed to bring their work to be displayed in the first of the 2018 Lyons Arts and Humanities Commission’s “Four Seasons” Town Hall Art Shows. To participate, bring snowflakes and wintry artwork, along with placards*, to the Town Hall Board Room on Friday, Jan. 5, between 4 and 7 p.m.

Then, at the kick-of the Winter Show's opening reception on Saturday, January 6th, from 4:30-5:30 pm, local poet and writing teacher Bonnie Auslander will lead a collaborative poetry extravaganza for school-aged children exploring the sights, sounds, and scents of winter. Children may choose to write on oversized paper with markers or huge brushes (provided), or simply dictate their thoughts to teen amanuenses (also known as literary assistants).

Friends, family and neighbors are then encouraged to bring finger foods to share and join in Saturday’s event celebrating poetry (in a casual open mic fashion) and personal visions of winter’s wonders at the 6:30-8 pm Opening Reception / Community Tapas Potluck (finger foods only), which follows.

In addition, the LAHC will sponsor a bake sale (fundraising for expanding the arts in Lyons) along with hot chocolate and apple cider.

*Placards must include: artist’s name, title, medium, size, price (or marked NFS—not for sale), and contact information. Reservations are not required.

We hope to see you there!

US-34 Open through January 2

US-34 is open for travel between Loveland and County Road 43 (Drake) for access to Estes Park during the holiday season.

US-34 opened to all motorists (with or without residential permits) on Dec. 22, and will remain open until 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2. Construction activities are ongoing and many areas continue to have only one passable lane, so pilot cars will navigate motorists through the canyon during the holiday opening. These lane restrictions and the anticipated extra traffic on the road for the holidays could mean delays exceeding one hour, especially on Sunday, Dec. 31. Motorists should plan for extra travel time if they plan to use US 34, and cyclists should plan not to ride in the busy one-lane corridor, for their safety.

In Case You Missed It..
