US-36 Guardrail Project

Guardrail Project

US-36 Work begins October 14

On Oct. 14, the Colorado Department of Transportation and Rodriguez Construction will begin improving safety guardrail on US Highway 36 northwest of Lyons. The work will primarily consist of replacing existing guardrails. Other work will include temporary erosion control, asphalt patching under the newly placed guardrail, and sign removal and replacement.

The project's goal is to enhance road safety in the corridor by replacing damaged and functionally obsolete guardrail sections and regrading associated slopes. These improvements are intended to reduce the frequency and severity of accidents in the area. Guardrails have many essential benefits, including preventing errant vehicles from hitting roadside obstacles and preventing much more severe crashes.

The work area is between
Mile Points 12.7 and 14.9 on US 36.
•    Work hours are Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. These times are approximate and subject to change.
•    Vehicles will be reduced to a single-lane, alternating traffic intermittently in both directions throughout the duration of the project.
•    Flaggers will control lane closures and will have up to 15-minute delays.
•    The speed limit will be reduced to 40 mph through the work zone.
•    The project is expected to last until the end of December.

Safe Streets For All

Safe Streets for All

Give your feedback

Improving pedestrian safety continues to be a priority for the Town of Lyons. While the Town is only 1.3 square miles, we are intersected by US-36 and also have SH-7 and SH-66 which go through our small town.

This federally funded safety project seeks to identify, understand, and reflect the community’s needs and desires for safer streets and access within Lyons, including improvements to traffic operations, pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, lighting, access to schools and businesses, parking, and streetscape design.

Recommendations will identify future improvements. The Town would like to know the specific areas of concern related to pedestrian safety and our roadways.  Learn more about the project and give your input via a short survey today.

There will also be a community open house to give feedback directly to the project team on Monday, October 21st from 3:30 to 6:30 pm at the Lyons Regional Library in the Community Room.

Construction Work and Improvements

Tuesday, October 15

The Town will be replacing a large valve in the water system at the intersection of 2nd Ave, Evans St. and Railroad Ave. beginning on Tuesday, October 15th.
Southbound 2nd Ave between Evans and Park will be closed for the work to be completed.

The Town will begin preparing for the work on Tuesday, October 15th and barring any unforeseen problems, estimate the work to be finished on Thursday, October 17th. Public Works hopes to avoid shutting off the water for any customers.  However, if there is an issue, there is a possibility that parts of the Town Water System for some customers might be affected.
We will have a better update after the work preparation begins on Tuesday. Thank you.
