Steamboat Valley Playground Closure

Steamboat Valley Playground

Irreparable Damage

Due to irreparable fractures on the Steamboat Valley playground equipment, the structure will be removed. According to a spokesperson from the playground company, the original material (recycled plastic lumber) of the playstructure is no longer manufactured, and they no longer employ the specialized carpenters to attempt minor repairs. It was also noted that defects from the recycled material is an increasingly common problem. Mark Ashland, owner and CEO of Children’s Playstructures & Recreation states, “Over the last few years, we have probably replaced 30 to 50 structures.”

The playstructure is tentatively scheduled to be removed in late September, and Parks and Recreation staff are looking into replacement opportunities.

The park will remain closed until further notice.
