Stone Canyon Wildfire Update

Wednesday, July 31, 2024  5:30 PM

The Boulder County Office of Disaster Management and the Town of Lyons are providing residents with this update regarding the Stone Canyon Wildfire.

Stone Canyon Wildfire Updates -

  • Priority #1 is human life, to keep people safe and out of danger.
  • Acres:  There are no new updates yet on acreage size increases from airplanes that measure the area.
  • Containment: Currently no new update on any containment percentages.
  • One fatality was confirmed earlier today. Five structures have been impacted.
  • Priority continues to be to shore up the southern and western edge of the wildfire zone, where many homes are located.
  • The fire continues to have active hot spots with smoldering areas. The weather continues to be dry and hot, with little relief in sight.
  • Staging for emergency personnel is also being held at the Lyons Middle and Senior High School.
  • State resources have been fully deployed. Resources are stretched thin, with another fire in Boulder County near Gross Reservoir.
  • Air quality continues to be a concern. If you have indoor A/C it is recommended to keep it on and windows closed.
  • Please continue to be vigilant about fire safety, remembering that sparks can create dangerous fire situations in this current dryness and drought.

  • Buses are staged at LifeBridge Church in Longmont should Lyons residents need help with evacuation transportation. Should you need to be evacuated and do not have transportation, please call the non-emergency number 303.441.4444
  • Through Thursday, August 1, LaVern Johnson Park is being utilized as a quiet area for the dozens of emergency personnel and firefighters to rest, sleep and shower.
We ask that usage be minimal and limited to walk through traffic to respect their need to recuperate. With emergency resources in Lyons also stretched very thin, we are asking the general public to limit use of parks and trails and recommending that the public utilize Bohn Park for recreation.  Please remember there is a fire ban in place.
  • Stay safe Lyons and continue to look out for each other.
