A message from Lyons Emergency Assistance Fund, LEAF Suicide Loss in Our Community: Orientation and Action Plan
The Lyons area has faced a significant increase in the number of deaths by suicide in the past year. There is a proven path forward that we as a community can follow to help prevent additional deaths. Going into 2024, we must address this issue head on.
After the floods, we showed up with buckets and shovels. After the downtown fire, we helped the affected businesses and individuals. When kids are hungry, we make sure there's food for them. And now, our attention turns to the caretakers, to those in our community who may be hurting in silence.
The first week in January, LEAF will be hosting a community orientation. LEAF, alongside other community partners, will walk us through the steps necessary to address this outbreak. The community-driven process is known as Postvention. The time and place details are being worked out now, so stay tuned.
Where: TBD When: First week of January, details coming Who: Any and all residents who wish to support their neighbors and themselves What: Discuss the steps we're taking as a community
