Notice: Special Use of Ralph Price Reservoir

CO National Guard to participate in aerial bucket training ahead of wildfire season

via City of Longmont

The Colorado Army National Guard will be conducting live bucket operations with multiple helicopters out of the Ralph Price Reservoir with direction from ground resources on simulated fire perimeters in typical terrain in the Button Rock Preserve. The objective is to allow both the National Guard and firefighters to share a realistic, high quality training opportunity. A qualified instructor will be on the ground to coach trainees on proper Air to Ground Communication procedures as well as proper standard target description techniques.
The National Guard is coordinating this training with City of Longmont staff to ensure safety to visitors, wildlife and the environment within Button Rock Preserve. Visitors should be prepared that there will be extra activity in the preserve during the dates and times listed below, most notably sound pollution from the helicopters. Although this training will create a level of disturbance for visitors, it is a valuable opportunity for wildland firefighters to gain familiarity with Button Rock Preserve should a fire ever threaten the area, in addition to building skills for use across the state of Colorado.

Planned Dates and Times for National Guard Training Operations at Ralph Price Reservoir:

May 14: 12 – 5 p.m.
May 15, 17, 18, 19, 20, 23, 24: 6 a.m. – 5 p.m.

SVCC Awarded CDBG-DR Funds for Apple Valley Project

The Saint Vrain Creek Coalition (SVCC) was recently awarded funds for the Apple Valley Flood Recovery and Resiliency Implementation Project.

Awarded funds will be spent on stream and floodplain rehabilitation and construction-related costs for the Apple Valley North (Phase I) project area. This area begins at the Rainbow Bridge (the northern bridge connecting Apple Valley Road to US 36) and extends 1.4 miles downstream along North Saint Vrain Creek. The estimated construction cost for this reach is nearly $2 million. DOLA awarded the SVCC $386,890 to leverage additional funding provided by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) for the Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) Program.

Lyons Spring Clean Weekend & Drug Take-Back

May 21 & 22

Each Spring, the Town of Lyons, led by the Sustainable Futures Commission, provides residents the opportunity to meet spring cleaning needs, without leaving town. This weekend of May 21 & 22 is a double hitter with a Community-Wide Yard Sale and a Cleanup Day.

For the Community-Wide Yard Sale, on Saturday May 21, the SFC not only helps with marketing for participating residents/clubs/organizations yard sales, but also offers free spots in Sandstone Park, for those who do not wish to sell items from their homes.

The Cleanup Day, on Sunday May  22, in Bohn Park, allows residents to dispose of  items that otherwise aren’t collected by haulers, including, old equipment, electronics, metals, yard waste, prescription drugs, and more. This event is supported in part by Boulder County. Volunteers and staff will be on hand to help residents.

DEA Drug Take-Back

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, and the Town of Lyons will be partnering in the DEA Drug Take-Back day. This will be a drive-thru drop off; just stop by the tent located in Bohn Park, roll down your window, and a deputy or representative will take the items from you.

Items NOT allowed are inhalers, needles, chemotherapy drugs and any liquids.
