Structure Fire Lyons DEcember 15

Structure Fire

Downtown Business District

Thursday morning, December 15th, a fire broke out in the 400 block of historic, downtown Main Street in Lyons. The building impacted is approximately 5,000 square feet and had multiple small business, commercial tenants. The small, local businesses directly impacted include Rabbit Brush Gallery, Bellwether, Lovely by Nature, Farmer’s Insurance, Scope Accounting, and 3C Gallery.

At this time, the cause of the fire is under investigation. Emergency responders included Lyons Fire, Pinewood Spring Fire, Lefthand Fire, Longmont Fire and Hygiene Fire Departments. One person was transported to the hospital and later released. Until the investigation is complete and the Lyons Fire Department confirms that the fire is completely extinguished, no one is allowed inside the building. The building sustained severe damage.

Efforts to support and help the small businesses affected are ongoing. We are stronger together. The Lyons Emergency Assistance Fund has created a fund to help those business owners impacted. The website to donate is https://leaflyons.org/main-street-fire/

Ice Rink to open next week

Prepping the Ice Rink

Wait till next week!

The ice rink is nearly completed and should be ready to open and skate on next week in time for winter break and much colder temperatures.  Parks staff have some final touches and have added one more layer today that still needs to freeze over the weekend.  If you could wait just a bit more and give the ice a bit more time, we should be ready for skating next week!

One Way

Changes to one block Railroad Ave

One Way Only - Westbound - from 2nd Ave to 3rd Ave

As many of you may know, Railroad Ave, from 2nd Ave to 3rd Ave (in front of Lyons Fire Station) has been closed due to the large Longmont Water pump station project. In conjunction with upcoming Broadway project and multi-modal improvements, the Board of Trustees approved changing the block to one-way only, westbound direction for this block only of Railroad Avenue when it reopens. Public works staff has completed installing the required signage. There will be flags warning drivers of this new vehicle pattern. This one block of Railroad Ave is scheduled to open back up for vehicles on Monday, with one way, westbound direction only.

In addition, there will be a new entrance cut to enter the parking lot from 3rd Ave. The contractor plans to add a new entrance off of 3rd Ave (across from the post office) and the entrance from Railroad Ave will be closed off.

Boulder County Motor Vehicle Department

Moves to appointments-based service model

This month, to better serve Boulder County residents and to reduce public wait times, the Boulder County Clerk and Recorder’s Motor Vehicle Division moved to an appointments-based service model for all in-person services. Additionally, annual vehicle registration and license plate renewals will need to be completed online, by mail or drop box, or at a self-service kiosk.

For over a year, the three Motor Vehicle branches – Boulder, Lafayette, and Longmont – have continuously faced wait times that average an hour or longer. This is partially due to staffing shortages, similar to what other employers are facing, and partially due to a large increase in the number of transactions residents need to complete in one visit. These wait times have persisted despite implementing numerous scheduling and process efficiencies over the last year.

To learn more about this change or to make an appointment for services, visit www.BoulderCounty.gov/MV
