Lyons Community Foundation

Matching Grant Program

A generous supporter of the Lyons Community Foundation (LCF) has offered to match every new donation they receive through October 31st, up to $10,000 total. Planet Bluegrass has offered to match as well with an additional $10,000 dollars if the LCF reaches their initial goal of $10,000 by the end of October. Paired with the support from the anonymous donor, this brings the fundraising potential to $30,000 dollars. All to support organizations in LYONS!

They have one month to raise the $10,000 and obtain the the full match. The funds raised will continue to support LCF’s mission by connecting the community (Sandstone Concert Series, Parade of Lights), supporting humans services such as the services LEAF offers (i.e., food pantry, Meals on Wheels, mental wellness), investing in youth scholarships, and encouraging ecological initiatives (i.e., Lyons Food Forest). This matching grant is a great opportunity to come together as a community.

If you are interested, please visit their website https://www.lyonscf.org/donate-now.html.
Thank you!

2023 Budget Planning

Bears and Trash
Remain Bear Aware!

Hyperphagia - a bear's time to pack on pounds

Colorado Parks and Wildlife reminds people to remain bear aware during hyperphagia - a bear's time to pack on pounds  in preparation for winter.

Black bears in Colorado are entering hyperphagia and will spend up to 20 hours a day trying to eat more than 20,000 calories to fatten up for winter. As bears start to prepare for hibernation and hunt for food, you may see more bear activity in Lyons.

Most conflicts between people and bears can be traced to easily accessible human food and your trash, as a bear’s natural drive to eat can overcome its fear of humans. When bears become too comfortable around humans, they can destroy property or even become a threat to human safety.

CPW’s most reported conflicts are from attractants such as trash, bird seed, pet food, and barbecue grills. Removing these and keeping your trash secure can help.
