Lyons Thrive Comprehensive Plan

Workshop, Oct 10, 2022, 6:30 - 8 pm

The Lyons Thrive Comprehensive Plan is in the final public review phase. Our community has worked hard over the last year to share its vision for Lyons future. Now we need your help to identify which strategies are the most important for Lyons to work on first.

Join us on Monday, October 10 from 6:30 - 8 pm in the Lyons Community Room at the Lyons Library.

Review the Draft Plan.
A lot has happened since the Lyons Thrive Comprehensive Plan update kicked off last fall and a draft of the 2022 Lyons Comprehensive Plan is almost finished. Join us to hear an overview of key aspects of the Draft Comprehensive Plan, and to help identify near-term priorities to implement the plan! A link to the Draft Plan will be available on October 5.

If you are new to the process or would like to see a quick recap of some of the major project milestones, you can review all of the work completed thus far at https://lyonsthrive.com/project-documents.

Matching Grant Program

A generous supporter of the Lyons Community Foundation (LCF) has offered to match every new donation they receive through October 31st, up to $10,000 total. They have one month to raise the $10,000 and obtain the the full match. The funds raised will continue to support LCF’s mission by connecting the community (Sandstone Concert Series, Parade of Lights), supporting humans services such as the services LEAF offers (i.e., food pantry, Meals on Wheels, mental wellness), investing in youth scholarships, and encouraging ecological initiatives (i.e., Lyons Food Forest). This matching grant is a great opportunity to come together as a community.

If you are interested, please visit their website https://www.lyonscf.org/donate-now.html.
Thank you!

Bears and Trash
Remain Bear Aware!

Hyperphagia - a bear's time to pack on pounds

Colorado Parks and Wildlife reminds people to remain bear aware during hyperphagia - a bear's time to pack on pounds  in preparation for winter.

Black bears in Colorado are entering hyperphagia and will spend up to 20 hours a day trying to eat more than 20,000 calories to fatten up for winter. As bears start to prepare for hibernation and hunt for food, you may see more bear activity in Lyons.

Most conflicts between people and bears can be traced to easily accessible human food and your trash, as a bear’s natural drive to eat can overcome its fear of humans. When bears become too comfortable around humans, they can destroy property or even become a threat to human safety.

CPW’s most reported conflicts are from attractants such as trash, bird seed, pet food, and barbecue grills. Removing these and keeping your trash secure can help.
