Sandstone Summer Concert Series

The 2022 series is back! Now on Wednesday evenings through August 17th. We're down to the final two concerts!  Wednesday, August 10th features Bonnie and Taylor Sims Band. Then the last concert will be a make up concert (due to rain in early July), with Beth Gadbaw and friends. Don't miss it! View the summer line up!



Lyons Community Foundation Grants

15th Annual Grant Cycle 

The Lyons Community Foundation (LCF) is pleased to announce the 15th Annual Community Support grant season. Applications for Community Support Grants are available to all local non-profit organizations and opened on  August 1st. These grants are available only once per year. Electronic submissions are required; granting information and applications are available at lyonscf.org. Over the lifetime of the Community Support Grants program, LCF has awarded half a million dollars in grant awards. This year, $42,000 will be made available to deserving recipients.




LaVern Johnson Park Closed

LaVern Johnson Park Closure

Planet Bluegrass Lease 

Residents are reminded that LaVern Johnson Park will be closed for Folks Festival beginning on Thursday, August 11 thru noon on Monday, August 15 as part of the lease agreement with Planet Bluegrass. Residents with proof of local address in Lyons (80540) are allowed to walk into the park during the day as part of the lease agreement.



4th Avenue Pedestrian Bridge Update


The concrete abutment on the south side for the bridge was poured and the north side concrete abutment is scheduled to be poured this week. Currently the bridge is scheduled to be placed between Aug 17 and Aug 24. It will be remain closed while the ramps are built for safety. 


Operation Mighty Goats

Tackling weed and fire mitigation organically!


The Town is working with two goat entities to help with weed mitigation. There will be a herd of about 10 goats arriving next week to work/eat the surrounding flood buyout areas near Park St in the confluence. This herd will be in operation for 3-4 weeks. This herd is named after Disney characters. There will be another herd of 35-40 goats arriving after Labor Day and working the area west of Horizon Drive, near the playground. 

Did you know goats will navigate even the most difficult terrain to consume any vegetation on wildfire-prone land?

Lyons Volunteers will be picking up hard to recycle materials on Wednesday, August 17th. Please use this form to request pick up of your hard to recycle materials. Block Styrofoam, Scrap Metal and electronics. Lyons Volunteers is a service of Lyons Emergency Relief Fund (LEAF). Learn more!

The Boulder County Planning Commission is hosting a public meeting beginning at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, August 17th, 2022 regarding their review and recommendation to the Boulder County Commissioners. The CEMEX item is number 5.4 on the agenda and they will be taking public input.  Due to COVID-19, Planning Commission hearings are currently being held virtually. The Board of Trustees held a public meeting on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 to receive community input and public comment in order to form a response on behalf of the Town of Lyons to the Boulder County Planning Commission regarding CEMEX's request for a 15  year mining extension. The Town of Lyons' response is posted on the Town's website. The referral was due to Boulder County before their July 22, 2022 deadline.




Utility Rates and Billing

Tiered Water Rate Information


July 2022, was the 2nd hottest July on record for Denver/Boulder region. Air conditioning can use significant electricity during these hot days. In addition, water use is tiered and the rate is higher, the more water that is used. The first 4,000 gallons  for residential use (which is more typical in winter months) is billed at $6.07 per 1,000 gallons. Usage of 4,001 - 15,999 gallons is billed at the rate of 7.35 per 1,000 gallons. Over 16,000 gallons is billed at 9.25 per 1,000 gallons. 

Customers may also compare their monthly use to previous years and/or months. If you use Xpress Billpay, your monthly history is available online. Customers may also call Town Hall and speak to the utility billing department and get their usage history.

Free RTD Public Transit for All in August 

Lyons Flyer Daily Service to/from Boulder


All RTD services will be free, including the airport buses, for the entire month of August to help reduce air pollution in a collaborative, statewide initiative designed to reduce ground-level ozone by increasing use of public transit.
No need to show your EcoPass and you can bring a friend or a bunch of friends and family on RTD’s buses and trains. Get to where you want to go by transit and not have to spending time searching for parking. 

And don't forget there is new daily service (Mon-Fri) to/from Boulder, twice in the morning and twice in the afternoons. The service, rebranded as the “Lyons Flyer,” will replace the Y route, formerly operated by RTD.

The Lyons Community Foundation and Lyons Emergency Assistance Fund are happy to announce the 2nd annual Hootenanny, which will take place at River Bend on Sunday, August 28th from 2pm-7pm. Some favorites will be back for a day of family fun: cornhole tournament, dancing with Mayama, duck race, family fun zone, live music and a silent auction. Mark your calendars and save the date.
