Bohn Park Stormwater Improvements
This project entails enlarging the storm detention ponds in Bohn Park and installing new larger storm drain between the ponds as well as their connection to the storm drain system on 2 nd Avenue. The current schedule begins this week and is scheduled to be complete by the end of October. Traffic Impacts – Next week, 2nd Avenue will remain open for the remainder of the project, except during concrete and asphalt placements. Those placements will include temporary day closures to complete the work safely. The concrete placements are anticipated to occur next week and asphalt will occur during the week of 9/27. Construction equipment will continue to cross 2nd Ave to transport materials from the staging area to the detention pond construction area. Parking will still be made available in the Wastewater Treatment Plant parking area if needed. This is a storm water project to continue to build Lyons' resiliency.

Lyons Schools, Parking and DogsA friendly reminder from the our local Middle/Senior High School The Lyons Middle/Senior High School reminds residents (and visitors) that the school property is closed during school hours for safety reasons. If you are visiting the school to speak with staff or picking up a student please use the visitor parking in front of the school.
If you are headed to the dog park or trails nearby, please park on the road and do NOT park at the school. There is a path on the north side of the school property that will take dog walkers right over to the dog park. Please remember that dogs must be leashed in the Town of Lyons, including the walk to the dog park.
The school also requests that you NOT let your dog on the practice field in front of the dog park. Kids of all ages use that field for soccer, football practice, baseball and more. There have been complaints of dogs using the fields for their daily business. This field is not the dog park. And, ew, gross... no student athlete should have to miss their winning goal while avoiding a stash of dog poo. Thank you!

New Public Art InstallationsHeARTs of Lyons and Creative Outlets
Lyons artist, Ryan Sohlden, is shown here painting a creative outlet (utility box) in LaVern M. Johnson Park as part of the Creative Outlets program. He researched his subject at the Lyons Redstone Museum to determine the exact train that came into Lyons, and the look of the tickets. Sohlden also included the name and birthdate of Edward S Lyons (who established Lyons as a town in 1881) on the train ticket. Back in the day, trains would come to/from Lyons (along Railroad Ave), turn around in Meadow (now Lavern Johnson) Park and tourists would take the Stanley Steamer up to Rocky Mountain National Park.
F.O. Stanley also helped to shape the future of tourism in Estes Park. He helped to fund building the road from Lyons to Estes Park, bringing in visitors, riding in a Stanley Steamer, to Estes Park and the Stanley Hotel. It marked the first time in history that an automobile, instead of a train, was used to transport guests to a resort area.
