Stage 1 Fire Ban in effect

Unincorporated areas of western Boulder County

In the interest of public safety, the Boulder County Sherriff's office issued Stage 1 Fire Restrictions, effective at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, June 25, for unincorporated areas of western Boulder County, which also coincides with fire restrictions being put in place by the United States Forest Service.

Fiber Project

US-36 Fiber Installation Project

From Lyons to Estes Park

Crown Castle Fiber has begun trenching along US-36 between Lyons and Estes Park and the work will continue through early September. This is a joint fiber optic facility for future safety and cellular service in the canyon.

In an effort to speed up the job while attempting to limit the delays for motorists, closing of thru lanes will be restricted to 7 pm to 7 am and only during these certain times of the day:
9 - 9:45 am
10:30-11:45 am
12-12:45 pm
1:30-2:15 pm

By implementing this “45 minute on the road & 45 minutes off the road” plan, CDOT anticipates clearing the flagging related waiting and ques thru the canyon.

Admittedly, a question may be "Why is CDOT allowing them to trench this fiber optic line in the height of summer”. CDOT has a contractual obligation to Crown Castle Fiber (the contractor) to allow installation in order to finish in time before the State Highway 7 project which will begin this fall.
