2nd Avenue Bridge Construction Update
Expect elevated noise levels and brief traffic impacts overnight on Monday Feb. 15 for bridge girder delivery and placement
A major project milestone will occur in mid-February when concrete girders are set in place on the new bridge supports.
Bridge girders will be delivered to the work zone on 2nd Avenue at St. Vrain Creek during the evening of Feb. 15 and early morning of Feb. 16.
This work must be performed overnight due to travel restrictions placed on the trucks carrying the oversized loads. Nine girders will be delivered to the site and each girder is 140 feet long. As the girders arrive, they will be removed by crane and placed on the new bridge abutments.
All work is expected to occur between 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 15 and 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16. Girders will be delivered from the south utilizing U.S. 36, McConnell Drive and 2nd Avenue. The delivery route will remain open with periodic traffic holds.
To accommodate truck turning movements, on-street parking will be restricted overnight near the intersection of McConnell Drive and 2nd Avenue, and along 2nd Ave. Temporary no-parking signs will be placed in advance of the work. If you normally park along 2nd Ave, please park overnight on Monday, Feb 15 in Bohn Park.
Temporary lighting will be used overnight at the bridge site and along the delivery route.
Safety is the priority. Please follow flagger instructions along the delivery route and expect some delay. For your safety, please stay out of the work zone. 2nd Avenue and the trails near the bridge are closed.
The project is on schedule for completion in spring / summer 2021.
All work is weather-dependent and the schedule is subject to change.
Visit the project website for more information and weekly project updates.
