Fire Updates3:00 PM THUR OCT 22
The Town of Lyons and the Lyons Fire Protection District wants to ensure that our community has the most up to date information regarding the local fires.
We are happy to report that, due to weather conditions and the fire not making any significant movement this week, we’ll be lifting almost all evacuations orders AND warnings for our area at this time. Homes along Hwy 7 from Mile Marker 30 and West are still under evacuation orders, as well as land south of Lyons Park Estates.
Please check the map from BoulderOEM to verify evacuation locations and orders: And, as a reminder, the lifting of these orders does not mean that the fire is out. Please remember that we could, at any time, have another evacuation warning or order until we feel confident that the CalWood fire is over. We know from watching the fires around us that snow may not completely put a fire out (Cameron Peak) and some towns have had to evacuate due to fire blow up with very little notice (Grand Lake).
Meanwhile, the East Troublesome Fire has established on the east side of Rocky Mountain National Park and is moving east. Portions of the Estes Valley are under mandatory evacuations and more are expected. - US-36 AND Highway 7 to Estes Park are currently closed to westbound access, due to the fires.
- Outbound access from Estes Park on US-36 eastbound is open for exiting Estes and Hwy 66 to Longmont is open
- Highway 7 between Lyons and Hwy 72 (Peak to Peak) is closed for #CalWoodFire operations.
- US 34 from Loveland to Estes Park is open.
Residents who live along US-36 west of Lyons in the Lyons Fire Protection District (Longmont Dam Rd, PInewood, Big Elk Meadows etc) that are not under evacuation should be able to get home. There is no westbound travel to Estes currently.
Watch www.cotrip.org for updates on state highways. Operations are going well on both the Lefthand Canyon and CalWood fires so far today. The cooler, more humid weather has lessened fire activity across both fires.
On the Lefthand Canyon Fire, crews are mopping up the remaining northern fire edge. This will continue through the afternoon.
On the CalWood Fire, crews are constructing direct line on the southern edge of the fire where it was backing down to Spruce Creek yesterday. West of there, crews are patrolling and mopping up from yesterday’s firing operation at the Balarat Education Center working eastward. On the northwest side of the fire, firefighters are monitoring the fire as it backs down into the St. Vrain drainage and Highway 7 corridor. Work continues on the north edge of the fire with crews mopping up and securing established fire lines. And, once again, we want to thank everyone for working together and taking care of each other during these stressful times. We will continue to update the community with any information we have to share and you can expect to see another update from us at the end of the day. Let's continue to take care of each, be prepared and stay safe Lyons!
