Boulder County Fire Updates
9:00 PM WED OCT 21
The Town of Lyons and the Lyons Fire Protection District wants to ensure that our community has the most up to date information regarding the local fires.
We are hopeful that this is the last update for today.
The Lyons Fire Protection District wants to take a moment to thank everyone for their support, patience and calm today as Lyons Park Estates and the Old St. Vrain areas were both evacuated this afternoon. Thank you to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office for their role in ensuring that the evacuation went well.
Evening Update: After a successful day on
#LefthandCanyonFire, it is now 460 acres and 43% contained. The majority of that containment is on the southern side of the fire area.
#CalWoodFire is 9,978 acres and 24% contained. Crews were active around the fire throughout the day; with the assistance of aircraft, firelines held as winds increased across the area today.
Keep an eye on the Type 2 Team's Facebook page for any updates they may share on the CalWood fire as a whole. So far, the winds did not pick up significantly during the day today, but Lyons Fire is expecting the winds to pick up this evening and throughout the night. Therefore, there will be multiple firefighting teams on the ground keeping an eye on the fire tonight and doing whatever they can to continue to keep our community safe. We understand that remaining on warning and having this fire nearby can be incredibly stressful and exhausting. There are so many amazing people working on this fire, and they are prepared to respond to keep everyone safe.
If anything changes tonight, the Sheriff's Office will ensure that the message gets out to anyone that needs to know of any updates.
As a reminder, here is the list for how to best leave your home and what to take with you in a fire evacuation. The Boulder County Sheriff recommends locking your doors and windows. The utility companies will make the appropriate decision regarding gas and electric service. If you have propane, please turn tanks off.
All evacuation warnings for the Town of Lyons are still in place. As a reminder, an evacuation warning means to be prepared to leave at a moment's notice.
Let's continue to take care of each, be prepared and stay safe Lyons!
