Official Communications from the Town of Lyons

Calwood Fire

SUN OCT 18 AFTERNOON UPDATE

The Town of Lyons and the Lyons Fire Protection District wants to ensure that our community has the most up to date information regarding an evacuation warning vs. an evacuation order. We understand that the information can be confusing and we hope to clarify and be very clear in our messaging.

Currently, Sunday afternoon, October 18th,  there is an evacuation warning within the limits of the Town of Lyons and for unincorporated areas west between US-36 and Highway 7. In addition, the evacuation order for Lyons Park Estates (in unincorporated Boulder County, off of the Old S St Vrain and Red Gulch Rd) has been lifted and changed to an evacuation warning.

With an evacuation warning, residents should be prepared to leave at a moments notice should that be necessary. Those who may need more time to evacuate because of large animals and/or livestock and/or mobility issues, please consider leaving immediately.

The types of wildfires we have, can involve fast moving and escalating fires.

If it changes to an evacuation order, then residents should leave immediately.

If you have evacuated already, Lyons Fire Protection District recommends that you stay where you have evacuated to at this time.

We've also included the following important updates:

1.  The best way to be notified if a future evacuation may happen is to sign up with Boulder County Alert System
  https://www.bouldercounty.org/safety/emergency/emergency-mass-notification-system/

2. The CalWoodFire is now on Inciweb. Please consider this reliable resource for fire information. There are a lot of resources coming to help, including air resources.
https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/7245

3.  The Boulder Office of Emergency Management continues to update their website with important fire information.   https://www.boulderoem.com/emergency-status/

Now is the best time to prepare  to evacuate should the fire change. Preparedness is critical during these times and everyone can do their part.  Our local volunteer community of Lyons Prepared has compiled a brochure of what to do to be prepared during wildfire season, and you can find the link here:  Prepare for a Wildfire Wildfire.

We remind all residents in the Town of Lyons to please sign up for the  Boulder County emergency messaging system.

Updates on state highways from CDOT:

  • Highway 7 between Lyons and Hwy 72 (Peak to Peak) is closed for #CalWoodFire operations. Hwy 7 from Estes Park to Hwy 72 is currently open.
