Official Communications from the Town of Lyons

Tree Trimming South of Broadway Monday Apr 20

Tree Trimming - Near Powerlines

Beginning Monday, Apr 20

During this critical time, we continue to be focused on ensuring that essential services, necessary to meet the needs of those in our community operate safely and smoothly.  As we all know, energy is important to our daily livelihood. As such, N-line, the town's electric contractor will begin trimming trees, around transmission and distribution lines in the Town Right of Way, approximately 10 feet around these lines.  The lower communication lines are the responsibility of the communications company. Individual service lines to the property are the responsibility of the property owner to safely and legally keep maintained.   As always, safety is a top priority and we’re taking steps to protect the public. Please use caution and give the tree-trimmers ample space when passing..

Economic aid grants of up to $1000 each will be made available to businesses with registered Lyons licenses and may be used to cover expenses such as rent and utilities.

Spring Clean Up Day Postponed

The health and safety of our residents remains the top concern of the Town. In light of the changing and unpredictable impacts of COVID-19, the Sustainable Futures Commission and the Town have decided to postpone the Spring Clean Day, until further notice. Both teams feel it is the right decision to protect you, volunteers, and staff, and observe all mandates toward slowing or stopping the spread of COVID-19.

Thanks for your understanding.

Y Bus Service Reduction

RTD Y Bus Service

COVID Related Service Reductions

RTD recently announced major service reductions along several of it's transit lines due to COVID-19.

Beginning on April 19, 2020 RTD buses will be reduced to Saturday Service levels. For the Y route, this means no service while RTD has the COVID service reductions in place.

Boulder County has been working with community and transit partners to help address the transporation shortfall. A voucher program with zTrip has been agreed to with the Town of Lyons and Boulder County to provide transportation service to students, seniors and those without access to transportation with a taxi voucher program. The voucher progam is valid for travel between Lyons and Boulder or Lyons and Longmont, anytime between 5:00 am and 7:00 pm Monday thru Friday.  Town staff is working with the Housing and Human Services Commission, Walt Self Senior Center and LEAF to ensure residents who need transporation will have access to a voucher for their transportation needs. The transportation voucher program will be available for those who need help by April 30, 2020.

Official Certified Election Results

The State Election Law requires the Town to send ballots to registered overseas voters per the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA). The law allows ballots from UOCAVA voters to be postmarked on Election Day and be received by the eighth day after the election to be counted. In addition, a 2018 mandate requires mail ballot signatures to be verified by the election judges. Any ballots the judges are unable to verify must be cured within eight days after the election to be counted. The final canvassing of the election results have been officially certified.

Bear Proof Your Trash

Keeping Bears Away

Springtime reminds us that the warmer weather has bears waking up from their winter hibernation. Along with April showers and May flowers the active black bear season also returns to our area. Take time now to ensure your trash and compost are secured!

The Colorado Depatment of Wildlife notes that "Black bears are curious, intelligent, and very resourceful; they will explore all possible food sources. If they find food near homes, campgrounds, vehicles, or communities, they’ll come back for more." Typically, bears that find food sources in town are likely to stay close to town, which increases the chance of human encounters and the bears losing their natural fear of people.

Following these tips to bear proof your home or business can help protect you, your family and hopefully save a bear.

  • Put your trash out the morning of your trash pick up.
  • Do NOT put it out the night before.
  • If possible, store your trash and compost in a house, garage, shed or other enclosed area until the morning of collection.
  • Remove bird feeders.  Feed birds in winter months only.
  • Both Western Disposal and One Way Trash Service offer bear proof trash bins for residential and commercial services. Contact your trash provider and ask about their bear proof system containers.
