Lyons Support

Lyons Resources during COVID-19

Watching the world- wide events of late, reminds us that Lyons is a community that has always prided itself on taking care of our neighbors and local businesses, many of which have felt the pain of a downturn in sales.

As citizens, we are all making adjustments to our daily routine to ensure the health and safety of our families, friends, and neighbors. Many of our local businesses have also made great strides and efforts to keep their stores and restaurants safe, clean and open for business, including expanding their services to have delivery and curbside pickup that will reduce too many people to people interactions.

We appreciate that many of you are also limiting exposure and practicing safe, social distancing. The Lyons Chamber of Commerce has a page that is continually updated regarding local business offerings and the Town has a dedicated COVID-19 webpage, with resources and information all in one spot.

Lyons - Grit and Grace
Thanks to all of you who continue to support Lyons where you can and to also help contain the spread of germs.

Shout Out!

A Lyons style shout out to all the leaders and volunteers including LEAF, the Housing & Human Services Commission, and the Town's Senior Programming Coordinator. Earlier this week, in just a matter of two days, 20 volunteers organized and implemented a Care Call system.

Care Call is set up to check on Lyons’ seniors and vulnerable citizens who are isolated and agree to being called by a volunteer. Callers will help with specific needs a person may have, such as  food, groceries, prescription pick up, physical and emotional wellbeing. Callers will then make referrals to the appropriate agency to address these needs.

People who want to volunteer to call should email volunteerLEAF@Leaflyons.org or if you know someone who might like to be included in the Care Call program.

Code Compliance Staff

The Town of Lyons recognizes the importance of preserving our quality of life in Lyons and has adopted local codes that identify the use and maintenance of private and commercial properties. The main objectives of compliance are:

•    Promote public health, safety and welfare
•    Preserve and enhance our quality of life
•    Protect property value
•    Collaboration with residents and businesses

In the next few weeks, our new Code Compliance Officer Dale Van Wagner will be conducting courtesy Inspections in your area. Inspections will provide property owners, businesses, and residents the opportunity to learn more about the current code requirements in Lyons and to ask questions. Properties will be receiving an inspection reminder in the form of a door hanger. The door hangers will list items that are typical violations in the Town of Lyons such as unlicensed vehicles, trash, debris, cluttered storage debris, etc.  Look around your own property and see if you are compliant. Spring Clean Up day is coming in May!

If you see Dale out in the community, please feel free to stop and talk with him, while maintaining safe, social distancing practices, including no contact if you feel sick, no handshaking and staying six feet apart. He is here to be helpful.  Talk to him about any concerns you may have.
