Thursday, April 19

On Thursday, April 19, a stretch of 2nd Ave. in front of Bohn Park will be limited to one lane, as the McConnell Bridge contractors place magnesium chloride. The work is schedule to begin around 8:30 a.m., and takes roughly 8 hours to complete.

Adolescent Rise Workshop

3-Class Series by Nicholas Thompson

The very popular presenter Nicholas Thompson is coming to Lyons to facilitate this engaging workshop on the Adolescent brain, how we can support and promote our children through their growth into adulthood. Price includes all 3 classes.

Thursday, April 26: Communication that Connects
This workshop will focus on fundamental communication models and techniques that will help parents develop a deeper connection with their children. We will discuss how slowing down, being present, and really being curious about their experiences allows for a deeper level of attunement and empathy. When an exchange begins to feel like a lecture, children will often feel attacked and disconnect. We will address how to on support, and allow for dialogue and to create a supportive relationship.

Wednesday, May 2: Managing Stress and Anxiety
Anxiety is the most common mental-health issue in the US. More and more students are experiencing high levels of stress and anxiety and many are developing unhealthy behaviors to get through the day. Some stress and anxiety is a good thing, but so many students are experiencing extreme levels and can result in signifi cant health problems. we will discuss what stress and anxiety is, how it shows up in our bodies, and what parents can do to help their children recognize and self-regulate.

Tuesday, May 8: You Can't Pour from an Empty Cup
We will be having a conversation about how parents taking care of themselves actually helps their children. Many parents feel overwhelmed this time of year with the stresses of family life. Self care is more than a discussion about how to take care of our bodies, it also includes creating time to nurture our emotional, social, creative, and spiritual selves. This is a an active and lifelong process to help us to make choices that will lead to a balanced and fulfilling life.

Age: 18+
Fee: $65 for all 3 sessions
Dates: April 26th, May 2nd, May 8th
