Official Communication from the Town of Lyons

Creek Resiliency and Vegetation

Recently, the Town received concerns expressed from residents, regarding activity occurring along the river bank of a 404 acquired lot on 3rd and Park St.

Following the 2013 flood, one of the Town’s top priorities was to restore and improve the resiliency of the stream. Today, after years of planning, designing and constructing the enhanced stream, the final stage of young vegetation has been implemented. This last stage of revegetation is not only imperative for the strength and resiliency of the creek’s altered route, but also for the health of the aquatic habitat.

The process has no doubt been long and difficult, and we are eager to have our creek back, but the Town is asking the help of residents’ for one last stretch. Please support the efforts of the creek’s full recovery, by waiting for creek recreation just a short period longer, to allow the fragile vegetation to mature.

Additionally, out of consideration to the neighbors in the area, and while preparation of the 404 acquired lots planning process is underway, the Town continues to request that people stay off the lots, until a plan has been developed.

We sincerely appreciate your support in these recovery efforts.
